BM TRADA enjoys most successful Timber Expo yet

BM TRADA is delighted to report its most successful Timber Expo yet, with an excellent response to its demonstrations and a steady stream of interested individuals to its stand – all wanting to know more about its services and solutions.

For Timber Expo 2014, BM TRADA increased the footprint of its stand – its biggest yet – to almost 100m2 to cater for the extensive programme of activities hosted throughout the two-day event.

Topping the bill was the new ‘Live Zone’ which featured a range of demonstrations designed to showcase its timber and fire credentials.DSC_4558

These engaging demos enabled audience to find out more about the topics ‘under the microscope’ from the team of BM TRADA experts.

One of the most popular demos saw Alex Matthews, BM TRADA Technical Officer – windows and doors, demonstrate elements of the PAS 24 test on an enhanced security timber window.

Another very popular demo saw Nick Clifford, Technical Consultant, carrying out timber species identification demonstrations, examining different species and demonstrating the methods employed to verify the wood species in a product. Visitors even got the chance to ‘look down the microscope’ to see for themselves – in a very interactive demonstration.

Phil O’Leary, Senior Technical Consultant, had to field the most questions from the audience with his timber strength grading demonstration in which visitors had the opportunity to get an overview of the process of grading timber – and the difference in approach between softwood and hardwood.

One of the best attended events on the BM TRADA stand saw the shortlisted entries into the ‘Velocity in British Timber’ student competition present their projects. It really was standing room only as each group talked about their inspiration for their designs and their use of timber.

Footfall to this year’s show increased from 4600 last year to over 6,000 this year, evidence that a move to the NEC Birmingham and the siting of it next to W14 succeeded in driving extra traffic to the event.

Commenting on the success of the event, BM TRADA Chief Operating Officer Jon Osborn said: “Timber Expo seems to go from strength to strength.

Certainly the 2014 show was the best yet. There was a real buzz among visitors to the event, which was reflected in the level of interest in the BM TRADA stand.

“This year, BM TRADA delivered its biggest and best stand yet. With the ‘Live Zone’ we really seemed to capture visitors imagination and the level of healthy interaction at the demos was really excellent.

We’re fully committed to Timber Expo and plan to bring an even better programme of events to the 2015 show.”
