Celebrating Construction Awards 2015 – Launch Event and Announcement of Judging Panel


Back in April, more than 650 hundred leaders and innovators from across the construction sector gathered at the ICC Birmingham, to recognise the very best industry projects at the Celebrating Construction Awards. Now six months on, the Celebrating Construction Awards 2015 will be launched on 27 November after the Midlands Construction Summit, taking place at the National Motorcycle Museum, Birmingham.

The big winner from the CC14 Awards, Carillion – picked up not one but two awards for their inspirational Library of Birmingham project – winning the prestigious Project of the Year together with the Integration and Collaborative Working Award. Described by Kevin McCloud of Grand Design as – ‘awe inspiring’ – the Library of Birmingham was also shortlisted for RIBA’s prestigious Stirling Prize. All winners from the 2014 Awards go on to the national finals which will be taking place on Friday 14 November at The Guoman Tower Hotel, St Katharine’s Way, London.

The Celebration Construction Awards are organised by the Built Environment Hub, a membership organisation created to drive best practice in construction product and process innovation in the Midlands region, in association with the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and Acivico Building Consultancy. This prestigious annual awards ceremony recognises the Midlands’ most inspiring construction projects and people, and in 2015 the awards will be hosted in the East and West Midlands for the first time.

Today the event organisers announced the 2015 judging panel twelve people which including:

Paul Hampton BSc(Hons) MSc MRICS FICWCI FHEA current Chair of RICS West Midlands, Principal Lecturer and Head of Employability at University of Wolverhampton’s Faculty of Science and Engineering.

Keith Blizzard BSc(Hons) DipArb FRICS FCIOB FCIArb CArb FFB MEWI – Partner heading Shakespeares’ Construction and Engineering team in Birmingham. He is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor, Chartered Builder, Chartered Arbitrator, Panel Adjudicator, Accredited Mediator, Forensic Surveyor and an experienced lecturer in Construction Law

These judges will be joined by well-known construction industry advocates including Mark Wakeford MA CEng MICE, Managing Director at Stepnell Ltd. A Chartered Civil Engineer, Mark brings a technical construction background which is underpinned by his commitment to the adoption of best practice and modern methods of management. A former main board member of the Joint Contracts Tribunal (JCT) and the Contracts Committee, Mark currently sits on the Strategic Forum for Construction and the Construction Leadership Council – a top industry umbrella bodies that advise Government and promote industry best practice.

Preceding the awards, the Midlands Construction Summit will help define a route map for those involved in the construction sector to maximise strategic opportunities in a lively and structured way, allowing for plenty of input from industry leaders and an opportunity to hear directly from Peter Hansford, the Government’s Chief Construction Advisor.

Peter Hansford will discuss the government’s clear vision for 2025, of an industry that is; known for its talented and diverse workforce, efficient and technologically advanced, leads the world in low-carbon and green construction exports, drives growth across the entire economy and has a clear leadership from a Construction Leadership Council
