Neaco supplies blend of styles for prestigious development

Neaco railed Juliet balcony design

Neaco supplied a bespoke specification combining a railed Juliet balcony design with its contemporary glass balustrade to meet the aesthetic requirements of a prestigious development of luxury apartments in Sevenoaks, Kent.

Designed by BHD Architects, the project formed part of an extensive redevelopment of a site at the junction with London Road and Pembroke Road in Sevenoaks and included the construction of a new apartment complex comprising 22 properties with parking at basement level. The scheme was carefully designed to fit into the established pattern of development of the surrounding area, in terms of scale and appearance. The building incorporates a range of traditional elements, including Neaco’s railed balconies, to reflect the character of the town centre whilst incorporating contemporary features promoting sustainable techniques such as solar panels, a green roof and living wall and rainwater harvesting. In addition to its railed balconies Neaco supplied balustrade with glass infill panels for top floor terraces.

Neaco’s National Sales Manager, Peter Melia, said: “Our glass balustrade and balcony solutions have attracted an exceptional level of demand in the residential market across a broad range of developments and The Pembroke is yet another example, but it’s also a reminder that we are able to offer a more traditional aesthetic with our railed balcony options also being utilised. We offer standard railed balcony designs but The Pembroke required a bespoke railed solution which demonstrates the design versatility of our technical team.”

Neaco’s range of handrails, balustrade and balconies offers a host of design options. The company’s product range also includes structural glass, adaptive bathing facilities and aluminium grilles for flooring, screening and shading applications. All products are backed by a class-leading Lifetime Guarantee.

Neaco balustrade featured at landmark college development

Neaco has supplied an extensive balustrade specification for a landmark development as part of East Riding College’s new Beverley Campus and Environmental Technologies Centre.

Architects Jefferson Sheard worked alongside the College and stakeholders in the development of a concept for a modern facility which acts as the face of the institution and concentrates on the Beverley Minster as an inspirational focal point, sense of place and historic context for students and staff. Neaco’s balustrade with glass infills is featured within an impressive atrium space and multi-functional hub presenting a large, welcoming and open space to visitors whilst affording excellent views of the Minster.

The new Beverley Campus for East Riding College is a future-proofed, cohesive learning environment and community resource for East Riding College and the local community. The BREEAM Excellent building incorporates an Environmental Technology Centre, flexible learning spaces and workplace learning environments for vocational study. Optimal natural ventilation and daylight are present in the design of the teaching and breakout spaces and materials have been used which will provide good life cycle costing and relatively low maintenance.

Much of the ground floor accommodation to the west is “customer facing”, being hair and beauty salons, restaurants, along with the learner services hub. The Environmental Technology Centre offers training and development in “clean” engineering subjects, interfacing with the engineering workshop retained within the development.

Secure balcony with stunning coastal views thanks to C.R. Laurence’s TAPER-LOC® System

Wanting to make the most of breath taking views over the Devon coast for their client, the team at 100% Stainless Ltd, called on the advantages of the TAPER-LOC® system to ensure the perfect fit.

Part of a complete redevelopment project with an extension, a feature of the private residence is the creation of a beautiful balustrade to the rear of the property, perfect for relaxing and simply enjoying the stunning scenery.

TAPER-LOC

100% Stainless Manager James Lethbridge explains:

“Uninterrupted views of the sea on a secure balustrade were the ultimate aim of this project. However, the installation needed to fulfil a number of other practical requirements. Ultimately, the customer wanted a secure balustrade that would not obscure their view, but be strong enough to withstand the wind rolling in from the sea and create shelter from the wind.”

The solution was to use the innovative TAPER-LOC® System from CRL, the leading supplier to the glazing, railing, architectural and construction sectors. James explains’

“To provide our client with the ideal solution we used a 15mm top mount heavy duty base shoe, with TAPER-LOC® tapers, and a 48mm diameter slotted stainless steel handrail which sits on top of the 15mm glass with a rubber gasket. Installation was straight-forward thanks to the in house training of our installers and the specialist tooling from CRL.”

Fifty per cent faster to install than traditional alternatives, TAPER-LOC® is a dry glaze system with no need for cement, suitable for laminated toughened glass from 12 to 21.52mm thick. Tested to meet the strictest building code requirements such as BS6180:2011, CEBTP and AbZ, the system uses a horizontal design, which allows it to be adjusted, dismantled and re-set. The base shoe can be surface or side-mounted, and provided drilled or undrilled. It is available in 3m lengths and made from aluminium.

James concludes,

“Taper-Loc is a strong and calculated product that has been heavily tested and proved to work well, and ultimately for our client keeps the view of the coastline perfectly visible. The specialist tooling and tapers enable the glass to be perfectly in line and the result is fantastic. Thank you to our client Mr Lait for letting us use his property for this case study.”
