Why Hotels should specify Living Walls to communicate Green Credentials?

Hotels across the UK have some great environmental and social initiatives in place, but how do they tell their customers about them?  Many sustainability and green messages fall by the wayside – lost in the standard paperwork of the hotel experience – menus, do not disturb signs and in-house print.Living WallsWhat better way to improve customer experience and communicate the green message than by installing living walls?  Green Walls offer a bold design method to differentiate your property from your competitors.  Both interior and exterior applications of Living Walls improve acoustics, air quality, biodiversity and the urban heat island effect – all packed with a punch of beautiful green aesthetics to inspire any customer to think GREEN.  The additional and proven benefits of incorporating living walls to reduce stress and enhance relaxation will ensure that guests enjoy their hotel experience that bit more.Living WallsThe wow factor of a living wall would also be a great starting point for customer engagement.  We can monitor water use, explain why plant species are selected for biodiversity and to support pollinators, explain the thermal benefits of the living wall to the building and how this creates energy efficiency (supported by our own detailed research into the Thermal Benefits of living walls) –  the discussion points are extensive.Living WallsSo which of the UK’s hotels have adopted the living wall trend?  Famously the Athenaeum on London’s Picadilly sports the famous Patrik Blanc living wall – one of the first installed in London.  The Rubens Hotel in Victoria is adorned with one of London’s largest living walls to improve air quality, the Scotscape team were sub-contracted to apply our experience to constructing this wall.  The St James Hotel in Central London, The Bedford Hotel in Holborn, Moxhull Hall Hotel in the West Country – the list goes on.  These smart hoteliers know that living walls are good news for telling their customers that they care about people and the environment , meaning that they are also likely to care about all aspects of hotel service.Living WallsAll industries have an obligation to communicate the green message – what better way to do so than a Living Wall?

P C Henderson Products Specified for High-End Hotel in Tianjin, China

PC Henderson

The Four Seasons in Tianjin, China is a 45 storey, 259 room hotel in the heart of the city’s Central Business District. Currently the tallest building in the metropolis, the high-end hotel is the first skyscraper in Tianjin to achieve LEED Gold certification for its extensive use of sustainable building products and construction methods.

A range of P C Henderson’s sliding and folding door hardware products were recently specified by the project’s Architectural Hardware Consultant to meet bespoke design needs. The main requirements were for large, heavy doors that offered a distinctive grandeur, while portraying the luxurious look and feel desired by the end user.

It was also important that the chosen hardware could cover a variety of sizeable apertures for different uses within the large development. This included conference rooms, a signature Italian restaurant, mock up rooms for Four Seasons’ branded residences, a grand ballroom and also in the hotel’s lavish 3,434 sq. ft. Presidential Suite. The Presidential Suite is designed with many large openings to provide guests with expansive city views from the highest floors, as well as to create flexible and abundant spaces for entertaining.

A total of 31 Flexirol Straight Sliding systems were installed as room dividers in the Presidential Suite and as sliding doors in the hotel’s conference rooms. The company’s Soltaire 120 hardware was employed in the grand ballroom, with 2 sets of our popular Securefold 150 folding door systems fitted in the hotel’s Italian restaurant.  The project was also the first time P C Henderson’s a flagship product, Securefold 150, had been installed in China.

Phase 1 of the build also included the installation of 32 Husky 100 sliding door hardware systems, complete with soft close mechanisms, in mock-up rooms for the hotel’s branded residences. The 2nd phase of the development will see the fit out of 143 branded residences within the same tower.

PC Henderson

Andrew Royle, Sales and Marketing Director at P C Henderson, commented: “Our Flexirol Straight Sliding hardware systems
were specified as they met the project brief which required hardware that could carry heavy doors weighing up to 300kg, while matching the opulent look and feel of the huge presidential suite and grand ballroom. Doors of this size must adhere to stringent safety requirements which our products conform to due to the rigorous testing we carry out.

“The unique capabilities and recognised quality of our Husky, Securefold and Soltaire product ranges ensured further specification in other apertures within the development where sliding and folding door hardware was required.”

The hotel was completed and opened to the public in January 2017. Get in touch at sales@pchenderson.com or +44 (0) 191 377 7345.

Five-star luxury at the touch of a button

geb

With comfort and luxury at every turn, Geberit AquaClean 8000plus shower toilets were the natural choice for the five-star Park Hyatt Vienna Hotel.

In the heart of Vienna’s old town, a 100-year-old bank building was converted into a luxury hotel. Today, the Park Hyatt Vienna combines contemporary architecture with the ambiance expected from a heritage building.

The conversion involved gutting the historical complex and redesigning it from scratch, with all conversion measures implemented in cooperation with the Austrian Federal Monuments Office and carried out by craftspeople in line with the original. In order to optimise room heights and functional areas, numerous ceilings and walls were removed and built back in at a different location, with the architects paying particular attention to protecting the historical components from damage.

Converting the two-story basement – where the former bank safes were located – into a spa area with a large swimming pool proved a major challenge in terms of structural engineering. To gain more room height, the suspended ceiling was removed and new beams added. To do this, the entire building had to be painstakingly lifted using hydraulic jacks so as to not damage the heritage-protected seamless marble slabs in the former cashier hall located above, which now houses the restaurant The Bank.

Due to the building structure, it was not possible to build standard rooms. As a result, virtually no two hotel rooms are alike.

When furnishing the 143 spacious hotel rooms, the interior designers combined timeless, elegant design with local Viennese flair. The market-leading Geberit AquaClean shower toilets are a feature of the 108 luxurious and spacious hotel rooms, plus 35 suites, offering guests the opportunity to indulge in spa-like comfort throughout their stay.

The Geberit AquaClean 8000plus combines the functions of a toilet and a bidet in one compact unit. At the touch of a button the shower toilet washes the user clean with a gentle, airy water spray at body temperature. The intensity of the water can be adjusted to one of five levels, while the oscillating spray provides a particularly beneficial clean.

geb2

The Geberit AquaClean 8000plus also offers many pampering functions in addition to the shower function, including an adjustable spray temperature and intensity, a pulsating massage function has an invigorating effect, an integrated warm-air dryer and an automatic odour extraction function, which fills the room with fresh, clean air.

“Shower toilets are a standard feature at the Park Hyatt Vienna because they offer unparalleled comfort and are also expected by international guests,” explains Dietmar Ploberger, Project Manager at Signa Development, the company responsible for the conversion.
